Cushieri Surgical Skills, Dundee Medi- Park
Wellwood Leslie have completed a feasibility study in conjunction with the University of Dundee School of Medicine to investigate the opportunity for a specialist surgical skills research and teaching facility to be constructed at Dundee Medi-Park.
Building on our experience gained in working with Professor Sue Black at the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHiD), the facility has been designed to provide a secure facility making use of Thiel Method soft-fix cadavers to provide realistic simulation of surgical operations for graduate and post-graduate surgeons. The facility is intended to facilitate NHS policy to improve patient safety by providing the highest standard of training facility within a simulated hospital setting.
The building design centres around a flexible teaching suite which can be used to create a single teaching space or a series of simulated operating theatres. To the north is a modern body handling facility to receive and store the thiel cadavers. To the south is a reception, teaching and administrative spaces for visiting staff and students.
