Climate Sampling Mast

Wellwood Leslie have delivered a new 100m high climate sampling mast on behalf of the James Hutton Institute on their research farm at Balruddery by Dundee.

The mast is designed to support atmospheric sampling equipment to measure CO2 emissions generated in Scotland’s central belt and carried on the prevailing wind across the site which lies to the north and east. The site hosts climate research scientists from the James Hutton Institute and from the University of Edinburgh. 

Wellwood Leslie were responsible for all design team services including structural engineering and M&E services design. Wellwood Lelsie were also responsible for consultation with the Civil Aviation Authority, the MoD and the local airport operator to ensure compliance with flight safeguarding requirements.

The development includes a modular research laboratory located at the base of the tower to accommodates specialist climate sampling equipment.
