Accord Hospice

The refurbishment of Accord Hospice, situated in the East of Paisley, features a new In-Patient Unit that brings a fresh and modern feel back to this 20th-century building.

The refurbishment has created 8 single bedrooms with en suites and personal outdoor space, tailored to suit the needs of the residents; a new nurse’s station located at the heart of the development, enabling staff to be in close proximity to patients; a family lounge, offices and a number of additional facilities.

It was important to the Client that the interiors were bright and vibrant with links back to nature in order to promote positive wellbeing and a healthy working environment.

To achieve this, bold oranges and greens were used consistently throughout the project and patterned feature walls were included in the bedrooms and corridors. Natural daylight floods the bedrooms and each room has access to a private patio, directly linking the rooms with the surrounding environment and opening them up to nature. The individual patio spaces are defined by brightly coloured screens which incorporate the paisley pattern motif, a recurring theme within the project.

Aspects of the redesign were challenging due to the complexities and restrictions from an original 1930’s building that is embedded into the structure and has been built over and around with brick extensions of the 80’s and 90’s.
