Centre for Atanomy and Human Identification, Dundee University
The award-winning staff of this Centre are amongst the most experienced in the UK in the fields of human identification, forensic anthropology, cranio-facial reconstruction and the study of the human body.
The Centre is regularly contacted for advice and input in high-profile missing persons identification cases both at home and abroad. The cases in which staff are involved are reflected in the research undertaken by the Centre, enabling it to maintain a high profile within the forensic community.
The development of new techniques to preserve the human body and to make it available for clinical research has led to the requirement for a new mortuary and laboratory facility to be developed.
Wellwood Leslie Architects have completed an initial feasibility study to create a new building integrated with the existing departmental and college facilities in the Medical Sciences Institute on the University Campus. Phase 1 of the project has been completed comprising the ground floor Thiel method mortuary . The mortuary is the first of its type in the UK. Its design has subsequently informed the design of similar facilities in the UK and further afield.
