Panbride Stables

Conservation of existing buildings is becoming increasingly more important in Architecture. Re-use and adaptation of existing buildings can be both more environmentally friendly and often more cost-effective than constructing new, with the additional benefit of preserving a piece of history.

Built in the mid-to-late 1800’s to accompany the adjacent Panbride House, Panbride stables is an excellent example of this ethos where, without intervention, this Category B listed building would likely have been left to deteriorate beyond rescue.

Through a series of feasibility studies, close engagement with Angus Council and Historic Scotland, detailed and technical design, and through the property changing hands amid construction, Wellwood Leslie Architects assisted several clients to successfully strip-out, refurbish, and convert the existing stables to form five luxury boutique holiday rental units.

The Stables and House are excellent examples of domestic Jacobean styled Architecture and are Category B Listed. Wellwood Leslie guided and led a multi-disciplinary design team to deliver an extensive package of refurbishment works, drawing on years of experience working with listed and historic buildings to ensure period features were retained and enhanced through sensitive intervention.

Panbride House and Stables sit within extensive garden grounds offering a variety of spa, gym and sporting facilities. The works were managed by the client and finished to a very high standard, with apartments available to rent throughout the year.
