Perth Food and Drink
In conjunction with the Scottish Cities Alliance and Perth and Kinross Council, Wellwood Leslie Architects took project lead on design and construction of a new purpose-built facility for food production on the outskirts of Perth. The facility is the flagship of a ground-breaking initiative to create stepping-stone facilities for local, small and startup catering businesses before moving into larger manufacturing facilities.
The development comprises 5 units arranged in a series of offset gables, each unit has separate customer and services entrances with each front door identified with its own bright-coloured render panel. The units are constructed as highly insulated energy efficient structures, with power provided from a nearby solar farm and on-roof solar panels, reducing dependency on electricity from the national Grid. All units are EPC rated Excellent A+.
The purpose-built units were constructed to meet stringent BRCGS food safety standards and are let out to local small scale and upstart catering-based businesses. Designed using modular building components, the units were constructed in record time, under funding deadline pressures, and are finished to an extremely high standard.
Wellwood Leslie are delighted to have had the opportunity to be involved in such an exciting project, with works completed in 2017.
